Giving a Luxury Gift:

When you give a present to someone, do you want them to turn around and be an “Indian giver”? No! Well, if you want your gift receiver to value your gift for years to come, then you might consider giving a luxury gift. But when is it appropriate to give a luxury gift and what are some ideas for a luxury gift?

A luxury gift is not just any other gift. It means and says a lot, so the process of picking one out for a friend, loved one, business partner, or anyone else, must be taken seriously. Here is a guide to luxury gifts.

  • What is a luxury gift?

A luxury gift is just what it sounds like – a gift that probably cost a decent amount of money and oozes extravagance. It might be practical, but that certainly isn’t its only purpose. It is designed to say something more than other gifts say. It’s not just given out of courtesy, but out of true appreciation, respect, or importance of the person you’re giving it to.

* When is the right occasion to give a luxury gift?

Weddings are probably the most common time that luxury gifts are given. People show their love and concern for the newlyweds by lavishing them with a slue of gifts, often requested on their own registry, to help them get along with the various expenses of life after that honeymoon is over. Any big life event like this – having a baby, graduating, etc – can mean that a luxury gift is in order. Often, however, luxury items are given and received liberally in the business arena where people court their clientele. But any birthday, anniversary, or occasion that has some sense of seriousness to it, can be greatly improved via a luxury gift.

  • What luxury gift should you get?

This is a tricky question. The luxury gift you end up buying is going to be entirely based on the person you are buying it for and the reason you are buying it for them. If you’re to attend a wedding, you will usually rely on the wedding gift registry at a particular store to get good gift ideas. If you’re purchasing a luxury gift for your spouse on your wedding anniversary, you of course will have more of an idea than anyone else what to put your money toward. (For women, expensive jewelry, like a shiny, pearl necklace for instance, is always a safe buy however!)

  • What are online resources for luxury gifts?

The world of online shopping is one that has exploded over the past few years and if you’re looking for a gift for a friend, co-worker, or lover, you’ll find a ton of gift ideas and choices by surfing the vast waves of the Internet. The key is to be unique. Give a personal gift, not just a generic one. A luxury gift that comes from the heart is better than one that comes from someone with a lot of money in their pocket. Of course the very term luxury gift implies a certain class of gifts, so money is probably not your biggest obstacle in this case, but it’s also important that you don’t leave behind sentimentality or creativity when picking out that perfect gift. Even if you’re buying something for an employee or boss, you can find a luxury gift that stands out from the rest.
